TUNISIAN fans celebrating their country's first ever African Nations Cup title clashed with riot police and looted shops today.

Wild celebrations erupted throughout Tunis after the hosts' 2-1 soccer win over Morocco in the capital.

Trouble flared when a group of young men tried to force their way through barricades preventing access to an office building and a popular bar.

When they were barred from entering the bar, the supporters threw bottles, stones and tree branches at policemen.

The windows of a bank, a cake shop and a jeweller were smashed and the men looted a shoe shop and pelted the officers with the footwear.

At least one policeman was injured, a witness said.

Police regained control when armoured cars were brought in to secure the scene and around 15 men were arrested.

Most cafes and bars serving alcohol in central Tunis were closed today.
